Track Five: God Is-I Am

This song came to me early one morning while I was ironing my clothes for work. I was thinking about our oneness with God and all that God is. Knowing that I am one with that which I call great, I must also know that I am great! Knowing that I am one with that which I call love, I must also be love! Knowing that I am one with that which I call peace, I must also have peace! This could go on and on…I am hope, I am joy, I am light, I am rich, I am, I am, I am!!

The thing I loved about writing this song is that it came all in one complete moment. I heard the bass line, the opening guitar riff and the horns immediately. I saw a crowd of people declaring their greatness and recognizing their oneness with the Great I Am! It’s a party!

Laying down the track for this song was fun and easy. As an artist who produces and engineers his records, it’s easy to get hung up on the technicalities. Over the years I’ve had to learn how to press record and just be the singer in that moment. When I listen back to my lead vocal on this song I can feel all the joy that I felt in that moment. I wasn’t conscious of the technical aspects of recording, just in the moment.

This is another song that I look forward to doing live. We’re working on a live recording for the Spring of 2011 and I just can’t imagine doing a live album without this song on it. Keep your eyes and ears open for more news on that concert in the coming year.
