Track Eight: The Presence of God

Like all of the songs on the album, “The Presence of God” came to me in a flash. I was walking home thinking about the idea of looking to a God outside of ourselves for hope, healing, restoration, acceptance and forgiveness. The truth is that God is never away from us or apart from us. We are intimately and intricately linked with All that Is. If we believe that “the Earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof” then there is no place we can go, be or stand where God is not. If we believe that it is in God that we “live, move and have our being” why would we search for God?

As I continued to walk and meditate on this truth I began to sing these words:

“I go to the presence of God, the presence of God is here. I close my eyes and draw near, I go to the presence of God. God is always where I am, the presence of God is here. I close my eyes and draw near. I go to the presence of God.”

In earlier posts I’ve talked a lot about the special moment of inspiration that comes with each song. Every experience of a new song is familiar but it always feels new…sorta like good sex. With this recording I wanted to give you all a peak into that moment of inspiration. The intro you hear on the album is the recording I made on my iPhone as I walked home. If you listen closely, you can hear cars passing by.

A few days later I laid down all of the music and the background vocals. For the bridge I didn’t have any lyrics. It was important for me to get a spontaneous recording for that part so I just let my soul speak. I love how that part came together!

Safety, security and serenity are available to us at any moment. Peace, love and understanding are available to us at any moment. All we have to do is stop, close our eyes and breathe in the gift of Life that is here for us all. God rests in the stillness. Answers to questions and problems rest in the stillness. It is my hope that this song will be used to take you into a place of meditation and reflection. Use this song to access that place of peace within that is sustained by the love of God.
