Track Ten: Go

Here we are at the final track on “One With You”.

This song was originally written to pitch for a commercial. The client asked for a track based around a drum loop with lyrics that suggested forward movement “Never Stop”, “Go”, etc.

As a songwriter and producer I am always excited about writing for a specific theme or idea. Back in high school and college I would pick a word or idea randomly and write a song about it. I always imagined that one day I would get a call to write a song for a specific theme within a short window for a high level project. Today I get those emails weekly and I am so grateful that all of my practice allows me zero in, focus and bring forth a good song.

For this song it started with the drum loop you hear in the beginning. I combed my library of old school classic breaks and loops and picked 4 or 5 to work with. From there I just let the track build naturally and I sat with it for a day. I wrote the lyrics and melody the next day while on my way to church and cut it the following Monday.

Unfortunately the client didn’t select “Go” for their commercial but this song has gotten the attention of others. “Go” has passed the first round to be selected for an upcoming XBox game similar to Rock Band, it will be featured on a new Coast 2 Coast Mixtape hosted by Miss Pretty Girl Rock, Keri Hilson and it is still one my Top 3 downloads on iTunes.

That’s the other beautiful gift of writing songs. Once it’s recorded and released, it takes on a life of its own. This song is enabling me to live my dreams in ways I never imagined when I first began working on it. “One With You” has opened so many doors for me. I am grateful that I listened and released this album. I am so excited about all of the new music coming in 2011.
